Chapter 11; Video/Filtered Video to Karkat

[[The feed flicks on to a view of four Pokemon. The first three are likely familiar to anyone who knows their trainer.

An all-too-cool Wooper, who currently seems rather put out and a little scratched up.
A primping and preening Pidgey, who seems quite proud of itself.
And a rather irritated looking Eevee, ruffled somewhat and glaring in the aforementioned Wooper's direction.
The fourth Pokemon, sitting quietly and watching the three with interest, is a Mareep.

From off camera comes the voice to confirm that yes, this is indeed Rose's team.]]

I am pleased to say we are finally making progress in level. Surprisingly, Dave has been putting forth a great deal of effort into his training. I am unsure as to why, but not complaining.

That was a compliment. You should accept it as such.

Pilcrow, the Pidgey you see before you, has also gained a few levels of her own. Guillemot has earned the most, however. I am highly proud of her. I also have a new addition, of whom I have just caught. Halos the Mareep. He is quite the energetic one, and I am sure he will make an excellent addition to my team.

[[And now you get a view of the girl, who looks like she's recovering from a cold.]]

I have doubts of challenging the gym here before we leave, but I suppose that is not my duty as a breeder anyway, is it?

...Karkat. Would I be able to ask a favor of you? It concerns living arrangements, as I have been unable to work for the past week due to both my illness and the incident with Dave, and therefor can no longer afford room and board.

Of course I intend to find work as soon as possible, but until then I have no where to stay...

Fine. I still need to grab a new job after I called in to quit the other while Dave as asleep, but I've got enough saved that I can pay for the room until I get something different.

[[Obviously relieved sigh.]]

[[And the feed flicks off, and over she comes. It takes her about fifteen minutes to gather her things, but soon she is knocking at the door of his room.]]

[Karkat himself spends the time tidying his room up a little for the sake of presentability. He's hardly the messiest of trolls, but he hardly wants to invite nitpicking from his moirail first thing. So, feeling it good enough, he opens the door when she knocks.]

Come in. Just put your stuff wherever--not the closet, though.

If you do not mind my asking, why not the closet?

[[Though she passes it and sets it beside the couch for now. She doesn't exactly have a lot though, seemingly not having gathered anything different than what she had started with aside from Pokemon, a coat and hat. So it is simply her backpack.

And, out of curiosity, she glances around.]]

It's, uh--dusty. Really dusty. And I've complained to the hivekeeping people but they haven't done anything, so I just gave up and don't use it.

[It really isn't that messy. ~~Karkitty~~ CG is curled up on the back of the couch, and he cracks open one eye Rose warily. Any other Pokémon aren't visible, presumably confined to their balls.]

...uh...huh.

[[Gives that closet a glance, but doesn't pry. Guile is the only one of her Pokemon allowed out constantly, and therefor she is also out today, quite happily napping withing her bag.]]

Normally, Karkat, the renter of a room is to clean the room itself. Including all dusty closets.

[[Slipping her coat off, she stays planted in her spot, holding the garment in her arms.]]

Or perhaps I was simply too polite.

[Huff.]

Just forget about the damn closet, Rose. I'll do what I want with it.

So put your coat somewhere already.

...Normally coats.

[[Sly smile, but she sets it on top of her bag behind her instead, letting her Eevee out when it makes a disgruntled noise about being covered. Guile shakes off and then instantly sets out to investigate this new area.]]

I am sorry. I will leave the topic of your closet and what it contains alone now.

[Glare.]

If you bring it up again, I am kicking you out.

Guile, however, happily chirps up at Karkat before moving on to hop onto the couch. Karkitty, she is interested in you.]]

Where shall I be sleeping?

[Karkitty meows disdainfully at the Eevee. His curly tail swishes, a warning to back off.]

Might want to get your Pokémon away from him. I wouldn't put him past scratching.

You can sleep on the couch, though. I'll put CG back in his ball if he bothers you. Unless for whatever misguided reason you want the floor or a chair.

That sounds perfectly fine to me.

[[At his suggestion, she pulls the Eevee away, though not before she gets in a few curious chirps.]]

And thank you for letting me stay with you, Karkat.

You're my moirail. I already let Soul stay with me about a month or so up until a while back, so I've got no reason not to do the same for you.

[Once the Eevee is withdrawn, though, the Glameow takes that as his cue to stand, stretch, and hop down... and head over to Rose.]

[Karkat for his part looks concerned.]

Damnit, CG, get away from--CG--

[He's not listening.]

Fucking--Karkitty!

[And, pausing as he goes to rub against Rose's legs, Karkitty glares back at Karkat.]

[He blinks back at the Glameow.]

Wait. He's--not hurting you?

[[And as she opens her mouth, Karkat begins telling his Glameow no. She watches, wondering if she should move, but at the "Karkitty" and the rubbing, she stays where she is. Hands going to her mouth to hide a smile.]]

It does not seem that way, no.

[[And, tentatively, she leans down to let him sniff her hand.]]

[Karkat ends up facepalming.]

Figures that he'd like you. Stupid jackass doesn't even like me.

[When Rose holds out her hand, rather than outright sniffing it, the Glameow pushes his head up against her palm. A pet me gesture if there ever was one.]

[[And she is quite happily petting little Karkitty, pleased as ever about being allowed to. Guile is still nearby, but isn't approaching. Rose told her not to, so instead she's going to trot over and look up at Karkat.]]

He's awfully cute.

[Karkat just glares down at Guile.]

[And Karkitty? He's just purring away.]

No, he's not. He's a pain in the ass and he won't answer to anything but Karkitty, even after I tried to argue Nepeta into calling him something else.

That sounds very similar to John and "Flighty Broad".

[[He is getting all of the pets. She is so pleased by this. And Guile just sits there, still looking up at him. Does she know when to back off? Nope. She is insistent that she will receive pets, even if she has to sit there and stare at him until he breaks and gives them to her.]]

Pretty much, though not half as funny.

[That damn Eevee, though. Karkat grumbles and scuffs his feet, but eventually bends down enough to give her a reluctant pat on the head.]

What kind of Pokémon is this, anyway?

[[She would argue that "Karkitty" is quite hilarious, but doesn't want to get kicked out for that either, so she instead responds to the question. All the while the Pokemon in question is looking quite pleased with this, rubbing happily into his hand.]]

She is an Eevee. Dave bought her for me.

She is quite the Pokemon, in my opinion, with five different evolutions she is capable of obtaining. Separate ones too, not successive ones.

[His eyebrows raise as he looks up, forgetting himself enough to just pet the Eeevee without concern.]

Huh, really? I got one for Sollux, but I don't actually know a whole lot about them - just that they can evolve into a bunch of stuff. Can you tell me the details so I can pass them on?

Well, Eevee themselves are normal typed. However, they are capable of falling into five different evolutions. Water, Fire, Electric, Psychic and Dark.

[[And Rose is just going to sit down now, petting Karkitty all the while using her free hand to gesture.]]

Three of these Pokemon - the Water, Fire and Electric types - are evolved using stones bought...I believe from Goldenrod, if I remember correctly. The other two are based on happiness, though I am not sure beyond that on how to differentiate the Psychic from the Dark.

Vaporeon is the Water type. They evolve using the Water Stone. Jolteon is the Electric type, evolving using the Thunder Stone, while Flareon, the fire type, evolves using the Fire Stone.

Umbreon is the Dark type, while Espeon; the Psychic. I am hoping to evolve Guillemot into an Espeon.

From everything I've heard, all evolution possibilities are very powerful.

[Karkat listens carefully, heading over to take a seat on the couch - not even minding if Guillemot follows.]

Sounds like I picked something good, then. He'd been complaining before about how his suck, so I wanted to get him something cool. And with that range, he should have plenty to pick from.

[[Oh and she does, quite happily stealing his lap of she's allowed to.]]

Most definitely. It is also the reason they are so popular, and from what Dave explained, so expensive.

[[She sighs now, rolling her eyes.]]

He is insistent I breed Guile at some point so he has eggs to sell.

[Karkat frowns a bit at Guile, but begrudgingly allows this. Karkitty of course would have taken Rose's by now, and curled up quite comfortably there.]

Yeah, I noticed the price. But I figured it was worth it - he's my best friend, and I don't want his team to suck.

Can't say I'm surprised there.
