Chapter 11; Video/Filtered Video to Karkat

[[The feed flicks on to a view of four Pokemon. The first three are likely familiar to anyone who knows their trainer.

An all-too-cool Wooper, who currently seems rather put out and a little scratched up.
A primping and preening Pidgey, who seems quite proud of itself.
And a rather irritated looking Eevee, ruffled somewhat and glaring in the aforementioned Wooper's direction.
The fourth Pokemon, sitting quietly and watching the three with interest, is a Mareep.

From off camera comes the voice to confirm that yes, this is indeed Rose's team.]]

I am pleased to say we are finally making progress in level. Surprisingly, Dave has been putting forth a great deal of effort into his training. I am unsure as to why, but not complaining.

Pilcrow, the Pidgey you see before you, has also gained a few levels of her own. Guillemot has earned the most, however. I am highly proud of her. I also have a new addition, of whom I have just caught. Halos the Mareep. He is quite the energetic one, and I am sure he will make an excellent addition to my team.

[[And now you get a view of the girl, who looks like she's recovering from a cold.]]

I have doubts of challenging the gym here before we leave, but I suppose that is not my duty as a breeder anyway, is it?

...Karkat. Would I be able to ask a favor of you? It concerns living arrangements, as I have been unable to work for the past week due to both my illness and the incident with Dave, and therefor can no longer afford room and board.

Of course I intend to find work as soon as possible, but until then I have no where to stay...

[He grabs a pillow, hugging it to his chest with crossed arms such that the upper half hides part of his face. His eyes peek over the top to allow him to watch the movie, at which they stare intently.]

...I was simply making a statement to disprove the theory that I would be in the better position to judge him. And pardon my misuse of terms. Though does this mean you are in a Reacharound with him?

[He tugs the pillow up higher, burying his face.]

[[Though she finally does quiet down now with yet another sigh, watching the movie and stroking Karkitty all the while.]]

[Huff. He puts the pillow down.]

God damn stupid fucking pale quadrant.

Fine. He--well--yes. I was really confused about it at first because it just seemed weird to even feel that way about someone I hate so fucking much, especially when my level of hate is so damn high anyway. But then--I don't know. Some stuff was just... nice. And not hateful.

The first time I really noticed it was the third date, and it freaked me the fuck out then, but it happened as early as the second and I really don't even fucking know how it happened.

So I talked to--someone who has a reacharound and he called me stupid for not figuring it out myself, but fuck him, because it was still confusing. And then I talked to Dave like you suggested in that one conversation, and, well, that went fucking terribly at first but later I admitted to him I might be flushed, but it wasn't set in stone then or anything like that.

So. So on the 9th last month - one month after he'd agreed to be my kismesis - well. We got into a huge argument and shit then and I didn't mind that, because that's what kismesisses are supposed to do. But. He got kind of upset, you see, 'cause he didn't want it to be caliginous that day. And we just... ended up watching romcoms and hanging out and shit, and that was good. And it's around then that it really sort of hit me, and that's why I made those heart chocolates for him and shit.

And Valentine's Day itself--well.

[He sort of sinks forward, curling in on himself until his face is nearly pressed against the Eevee on his lap.]

None of your fucking business, but it made it pretty clear.

[[Guile totally took that opportunity to nuzzle his cheek a little, settling back down before she wore out her welcome. Rose, meanwhile, simply offered him a thoughtful sound in reply.]]

[Karkat, after a moment or two, turns his head to glare at her, cheeks still tinted with his blush.]

What? Say something.

At this point, I think all I could say is that I am happy for you. Aside from what information you choose to withhold from me, there is little more I could question upon.

[[Here's a smile coming your way, Karkat.]]

So, I am happy for you.

[Karkat makes a few grumbled noises, but soon enough, he's sitting back up, albeit stubbornly not looking at her.]

I still don't really get how it turned out like this. But...

[[She turns her attention back to the movie. No need to make him uncomfortable by staring at him. Though she still wears the smile from before.]]

[This is when he buries his face in his hands. Too embarrassed. Too embarrassed!]

That's not what I meant! I meant--why I like him that way, or why he started liking me or, or that shit.

[Fidget fidget.]

You--think it really could be?

Well that can easily be attributed to human romance, and the fact Dave is indeed human. And perhaps, maybe, to the fact you are now human as well, despite how much of your...trollmanity? That you have kept a hold of. I would have little doubt that that is what is coloring your relationship flushed as it is.

[[A hand lightly touches his shoulder in assurance. And perhaps with just the smallest amount of fondness that she's willing to show.]]

I certainly think so, yes. From everything I've observed, and everything you've explained, it is most definitely at the forefront of my mind when contemplating your relationship together.

No--no. I mean. There's.

I am perfectly capable of a god damn mobius double reacharound without your weird human mechanics mucking up my sense of romantic attractions. I just--why he likes me. What about me. Because he's--I don't know. I know why I hate him and why he hates me, but--I guess he's... he's sweet and he does nice shit sometimes, but I'm just--curious, okay?

[He shakes off her hand. Not out of refusal of the sentiment so much as him being his usual ~~tsundere~~ shy, ragey self.]

Now I understand, forgive me Karkat. And as much as I would like to help you there, I am both unaware of these facts, and sure you would like to learn of them on your own anyway. Though your own reasons for regarding him with such affection are certainly good ones.

[[Hand at her side, resting on the couch now. But it's okay, she knows.]]

[But he's relaxing a little now, going back to petting Guile.]

Well forgive me, Karkat. When one is attempting to be cagey, it is sometimes hard to discern what their meaning is.

Being straightforward would likely prove fruitful to such an endeavor. Though, again, this is Dave. So it may just as likely not.

But I feel you should try it anyway whenever you find your courage gathered enough to attempt such a move.

[[Guile will go back to making happy chirping noises, rolling onto her back in hopes of her tummy getting the same attention. Rose by now has stopped petting, replacing it instead with gently resting her hand in the Glameow's fur, massaging wherever her fingers happen to be laying.]]

Hmph. Maybe one of those moments when he's being nicer, then, and he's not pissing me off somehow.

[For now, he'll turn his attention back to the movie, again. Guile does get those tummy rubs, though. For all his glaring at her earlier, he is apparently not too mean with Pokémon, either.]

[Karkitty meanwhile is content again, helped along by the fact that the two above have ceased their irritating argument. Purr purr.]

[[And the more tummy rubs she gets, the further stretched out and relaxed Guile becomes, until she is simply lazing in his lap asleep.

Karkat. You are her new best friend.

In a spot where she feels the movie was slow enough, she decides to speak up once again, though this has nothing to do with ~feelings~.]]

The really could have chosen a better man to play the lead role.

[The Glameow ends up in a similar state ere long. Cats do love their naps, even if this one is an irritable mini-Karkat in spirit.]

[When Rose speaks up, however, he gives her a quizzical look.]

Why? What's wrong with him?

[[And oh boy is Karkitty getting some nice belly rubs, because tiny Karkat or not, he is the most adorable thing. ~~You could get belly rubs too if you asked nicely, Karkat.~~]]

I just don't think he fills the role well. Charming someone like Samantha would take much more cunning, as is easily apparent, however he just...Isn't convincing. I hardly believe he is as intelligent as the character is, and that really makes it hard to believe the character. For me, I suppose.

I'm far more partial to Elijah's actor.

[~~You would be harmed if you tried, Rose.~~]

Oh. Oh. Sorry, I get caught up in this shit - I was trying to pretend he was too big of an idiot that she was going along with it more out of irritation. I have to do something to make up for the lack of other quadrants in this stuff.

Elijah, though, he'd be better off with Laura. She obviously needs someone like him in her life.

...Actually, you raise a very good point. That both makes him a slight bit more tolerable, but makes the story a little more interesting as well.

I suppose he wasn't so bad a pick in that respect then.

And yes, of course. I wasn't suggesting otherwise. Merely that his actor would play Chris far better. But yes, Laura is most definitely in need of Elijah, and in some ways I feel he needs her as well. I really hope he does not chase Trina's tail to the end.

See? Troll movies are better that way. Troll romance, too. Makes stuff more complex and interesting, and it's better than trying to shoehorn everything into the flushed quadrant.

But yeah--if it were flushed, and Elijah's actor played Chris, I could see it working better.

I never argued it was worse than human romance. I am simply catching my brain up to speed to pick the troll romance out in things is all. Because really, it does interest me. Quite a bit.
