Chapter 12; Voice for John

[[It was rather early, and yet she found she couldn't sleep. Her second night in Karkat's hotel still felt like awkward, even if they weren't sleeping in the same room as one another, and this was cause for slight insomnia.

At first she tried typical things to aid her slumber. Pacing. Reading. Warm milk. Relaxing music. The Pokemon Lullaby, as Dave had suggested. And when she finally ran out of ideas, she decide she would at least make use of her time.

And so, retrieving her Pokegear, she sends a call to a friend of hers, hoping it would be enough to wake him from whatever slumber he is in.]]

I had no wish to wake Dave up, John. Hence why I called rather than came over in the first place.

[He's awake and dressed. At three in the morning, that's all the "ready" you're going to get from him.]

[[And turning on her heels, she begins heading down the hall towards the elevators, lacing her fingers behind her back.]]

I've already a few topics I know we could use to study, I hope you do not mind this.

Because I was unable to sleep, and wanted to spend this time with a friend rather than on my own, thinking. If you would rather not spend such time with me, however, you are plenty free to go back to bed, and I hope you accept my apology for wanting to 'hang' with you.

[He looks a little hesitant about entering the library before her. Wasn't this supposed to be the other way around?]

[He hadn't been spacing and staring, nope. Totally paying attention. And now it's time to follow Rose! Because he has no idea where to start, but obviously she does! How fortunate.]

[[She does indeed, and within no time she has a stack of four or five books in her arms, still browsing.]]

[It appears as though he may actually have something specific in mind. He's examining the books on the shelves closely, looking for--]

[He pulls a dark purple book off the shelf and holds it up, smiling. Looks like it's a complete guide to ghost types. Like you expected anything else from him. For a supposed "complete guide" it's not very thick...]

For not having anything specific, you were quite quick to find what you were looking for.

[[Shaking her head, she turns and starts walking towards a table near by. She just expects you to follow, John. Like the puppy you are.]]

Well I meant I didn't have a specific pokémon in mind. I did have a specific type though. I should have worded that better, sorry.

[He most certainly is following you, Rose! He is the best puppy, isn't he?]

I mean I have the only ghost type that existed in the games. But maybe there are some new ones here! That would be neat!

[He's starting to get that excited, borderline-fanatical look in his eyes.]

You are positively hopeless, John Egbert. Please try to avoid Pokemon in the future whom may attempt to switch your medicine if you can help it.

[[Yeah, his Ghastly obviously didn't leave a very pleasant taste in her mouth about ghost Pokemon.]]

Okay I will. But really, ghost types aren't all that bad. I mean Jade's Gastly is really nice.

[Flipping through the book now~ Oh wow they're weak to dark type? What's dark type? When did that happen? Hm...]

[[Meanwhile Rose is looking up more on Eevees.]]

I've yet to meet it. I've yet to meet any of her Pokemon, really. We really need to do a little catching up.

[Still kind of flipping idly through it. Where's all the specific species information? Not that the rest of this stuff isn't interesting, but he wants to see what new options he's got!]

We all do I think. I mean, we've been in Violet how long and the four of us haven't really done much together have we? Unless you count all that stuff from last week...which I don't. Because Dave wasn't conscious for that.

[Flip. Flip. Flip. Flip. Flip.]

The four of should really get together and do something...

[His tone is somewhat melancholy, though he doesn't look up from the book and the look on his face is rather neutral. He just wants to spend time with his friends, is that really so much to ask? Really, what's the point of meeting face-to-face if they weren't even going to hang out together?]

[[Rose simply hummed her agreement, putting the idea of a get together in the back of her mind to contemplate later. Really, they did. They would see each other and say hello, they'd of course comment on the moronic antics that each of them decided to post to the network, but they hadn't actually gotten to enjoy their company together as a thing. Someone would have to fix that.]]

Perhaps sometime in the future. I am sure Dave would be up to such a challenge.

[[At such a short response, Rose looks up from her own book, a brow raising in interest. Though, she isn't going to interrupt him. Reading is good for you, and everyone knows John needs to do more of it.]]

[And so the little read-a-thon goes smoothly and quietly for a while. At least ten minutes, possibly more. It's really hard to tell.]
