Chapter 10; Action/Voice for Karkat, John and Jade

[What happened]

[[She certainly didn't mind his company, as much as she bickered with him when he insisted upon taking care of her, and insisted upon making sure she was comfortable, and insisted upon getting her more blankets, knowing she would want them. As much as she argued she didn't need the help, she did appreciate it.

And so, even though the subject struck up yet more sibling snark-ery, she appreciated him offering to make her soup.

Still had a hard time expressing it though.]]

Dave, I do not care how delicious you claim it tastes. I do not care how insistent you are upon the fact it is good for me. I do not want soup.

[[He just laughed at her, and that simply annoyed her more.]]

Relax Rosie. You're not getting any better by throwing a fit.

[[Looking away with a snort, the girl glowered at the window. When a spoon clattered from being dropped, she thought nothing of it.]]

Would you please refrain from making a mess, I would really hate to--

[[Cut off by the sound of something far bigger slamming into the stove finally forced her to turn her glare towards the kitchen.

Which Dave was currently occupying the floor of.]]

...D-Dave?

[[Unfurling and scrambling from her nest, she quickly crossed the hotel room and stared down at the boy a moment, before bending down to carefully touch his forehead - which judging from how red the skin was and how it was already starting to bruise, that must have been what she heard colliding with the stove.

Carefully she shook him by his shoulders.]]

If you are trying to tease me to force some form of sincere affection from me, th-there are better ways to go about that. This is unacceptable, and I will not stand for it, so I request you sit up and cease this tom-foolery.

...Please?

[Voice for Karkat]

[[When Karkat answers, he is greeted by Rose, who definitely does not sound as put-together as usual. She's not in a panic, but her voice is shaking a little.]]

K-karkat. I require your presence immediately. Dave just collapsed, and I am unsure of what to do about i-it. I am unable to move him on my own, and am fairly certain we should not leave him on my kitchen floor.

[Text for John and Jade]

[[A text is also sent to John and Jade, as Rose is aware they would both want to know.]]

John, Jade, I would like to inform you that Dave, currently, is passed out on my kitchen floor.
I am having Karkat come over to help, and fear having more than him and I might make this complicated as it is a fairly small kitchen and room, so please do not worry about assisting.
I simply felt you would both like to know.

[[She will just. Stay between Karkat and Dave, giving the former a stern look.]]

We will be certain to contact you if something more arises, or he does not wake up.

[It's like trying to hold on to a particularly violent eel!]

Yeah but he was conscious and able to defend himself those times, Karkat! It's not the same!

[Are you calm now Karkat? Good. Now he's going to turn his attention to the nurse, but still not going to let you have control of your arm just yet because...who knows what you might do?]

[Karkat's not even fidgeting even more, though he's entirely unamused by all this.] Just shut up, John. And quit glaring, Rose.

[The nurse meanwhile politely clears her voice.] You're quite welcome, but could someone move the chair from in front of the door? I believe I heard one of you lock it, as well.

[[The chair.

Glancing at the chair, she moves from in front of them, taking hold of one of the chair's arms.]]

Will one of you assist me with this?

[The chair is an awesome idea. This nurse just does not understand the gravity of the situation as she has never met the terror that is BRO STRIDER.]

Huh? Yeah, sure. Hold on.

[Since it seems Karkat has calmed back down ~~inasmuch as Karkat CAN be calm~~ John releases him in favor of helping Rose move the chair. He's watching you though Karkat. If you even think about hitting Dave again...]

[Karkat will just be over here, glaring at Dave, arms folded. No punching here. Just good old caliginous ire.]

[The nurse, meanwhile, simply utters another thanks before bowing and taking her leave.]

[[Once the nurse is gone, she takes a seat in that chair, sighing tiredly and closing her eyes.]]

...a week.

[Once again, locking and barricading that door, then leaning against the wall and sliding down it till he's sitting on the floor.]

That's what she said...now what?

[Even if he's still pissed at Dave, that doesn't mean he can't think of how to deal with the situation at hand.]

I'll stay here. I'll call in to work, say I'm quitting, find something else once Dave's awake again. One of us has to watch him and guard the door in case his jackass brother comes looking for him, and Rose, you probably couldn't fend him off as well as me. Plus, I've been here longest, so even if I can't, I've got stronger Pokémon than all of you. Besides, when Dave does wake up, he'll need someone here to explain what happened.

I am not sure I would be well equipped to care for him on my own, anyway, considering I myself am sick. I am already fairly worn from the events today.

[[Rubbing at her temples, she sighs.]]

I do not have extra accommodations, however, so you will either need to provide a pillow and blankets, or put up with sharing the bed. As I am not leaving him alone either.

No offense Rose, but since you're still sick you probably shouldn't get to close to him. I think a sick Dave is the last thing we need...especially if he's sick and unconscious.

[He runs a hand through his hair and sighs. Looks like it was time to get out the sleeping bag again! He really hoped the hotel floor was slightly more comfortable than the forest floor.]

I'll stay and help too. Though I should probably go back to our room every once in a while in case his brother comes looking for him. I'll just make up excuses...

I'm not sharing the damn bed, Rose. I've got a sleeping bag with my stuff; I can use that and steal the hotel pillow or something. Besides, I don't want to get sick, either.

[He looks to John next, quite stern.]

Your excuses better be fucking good, too.

Pardon me for attempting to be hospitable.

[[They're both getting a rather unamused face now before she stands and wanders to the kitchen, cleaning up the soup and debating on whether to start more or not.

At this point, all she really cared about was for the details to be dealt with so she could sit down and relax somewhere, and just ignore everything for a while.]]

Of course they'll be good ones! Do you think I want him to find out about this?!

[He's not even worried about the physical harm that may come from this, he's worried about the potential stripping and de-masculinization that may result from keeping things away from Bro.]

[Karkat glowers at both of them, before turning back towards the door.]

Help me get the chair again, then guard the door. I'm going to get my stuff from my room. Should be back soon.

[[Listening to them, she sighs. So much sighing tonight. She allows them to do as they please, setting about making soup. And perhaps a sandwich for Karkat and John.]]

John, you will likely want to do the same. And make sure to lay out food for whatever Pokemon he may not keep in their Pokeballs.

[Just as Karkat asked, John stood up and helped him move the chair. He gave Karkat a nod as he left to let him know that he understood and then leaned against the door, where he would remain until Karkat returned.]

I'll go once he gets back. And I'll be sure to do that.

[It's not terribly long for Karkat to return, but when he does, he hesitates. Remembering last time what he made John do.]

Uh--

[A knock.]

It's Karkat! Rose, we gave each other headaches that time you taught me--something. Now let me in.

[[...those headaches. She had a love-hate relationship with that memory. Always made her head hurt thinking about it, but that was a pretty good round of romcoms.]]

John, you are free to let him in. That is most certainly our Karkat.

[And so he unlocks the door and lets Karkat in before he leaves once again.]

I'll be right back...again.

[Karkat steps on inside, locking the door after John slips out. His stuff he dumps to the side - he'll put it somewhere better once John's back, and the chair's blocking it again.]

Man, putting up with him being here too is going to be a pain.

Perhaps it will help you in your quest of not hating him as much?

[[Rose is simply leaning against the arm of the couch that is facing the door, and therefor Karkat, bowl of soup in hand.]]

A 'bonding' experience, if you will.

Sticking around annoying people tends to make me hate them more. Have you ever lived on a space rock with eleven other trolls? Never do it. Fucking pain in the nook.

But it's not like I have a fucking choice here.

Well I am sure it would not be so bad living around you. And from the few trolls I've met I believe I could...

[[Pauses here, a scowl reaching her lips.]]

Nevermind. I would murder Eridan, I am sure. Your patience is admirable.

Maybe that's why Gamzee insists on calling me his best friend at every opportunity. I'm a fucking miracle worker, putting up with them all.

[Rubbing his face now.]
