Chapter 10; Action/Voice for Karkat, John and Jade

[What happened]

[[She certainly didn't mind his company, as much as she bickered with him when he insisted upon taking care of her, and insisted upon making sure she was comfortable, and insisted upon getting her more blankets, knowing she would want them. As much as she argued she didn't need the help, she did appreciate it.

And so, even though the subject struck up yet more sibling snark-ery, she appreciated him offering to make her soup.

Still had a hard time expressing it though.]]

Dave, I do not care how delicious you claim it tastes. I do not care how insistent you are upon the fact it is good for me. I do not want soup.

[[He just laughed at her, and that simply annoyed her more.]]

Relax Rosie. You're not getting any better by throwing a fit.

[[Looking away with a snort, the girl glowered at the window. When a spoon clattered from being dropped, she thought nothing of it.]]

Would you please refrain from making a mess, I would really hate to--

[[Cut off by the sound of something far bigger slamming into the stove finally forced her to turn her glare towards the kitchen.

Which Dave was currently occupying the floor of.]]

...D-Dave?

[[Unfurling and scrambling from her nest, she quickly crossed the hotel room and stared down at the boy a moment, before bending down to carefully touch his forehead - which judging from how red the skin was and how it was already starting to bruise, that must have been what she heard colliding with the stove.

Carefully she shook him by his shoulders.]]

If you are trying to tease me to force some form of sincere affection from me, th-there are better ways to go about that. This is unacceptable, and I will not stand for it, so I request you sit up and cease this tom-foolery.

...Please?

[Voice for Karkat]

[[When Karkat answers, he is greeted by Rose, who definitely does not sound as put-together as usual. She's not in a panic, but her voice is shaking a little.]]

K-karkat. I require your presence immediately. Dave just collapsed, and I am unsure of what to do about i-it. I am unable to move him on my own, and am fairly certain we should not leave him on my kitchen floor.

[Text for John and Jade]

[[A text is also sent to John and Jade, as Rose is aware they would both want to know.]]

John, Jade, I would like to inform you that Dave, currently, is passed out on my kitchen floor.
I am having Karkat come over to help, and fear having more than him and I might make this complicated as it is a fairly small kitchen and room, so please do not worry about assisting.
I simply felt you would both like to know.

[He rubs one of his temples, his other arm remaining folded in front of his chest.]

Do you think the nurses know anything about treating humans? I mean, they can't just treat pokémon can they?

[And even if they don't...any adult is better than Bro. Any adult.]

[[She was just about to call Bro too, but pauses.]]

If not, surely they will know someone who can!

[[That was possibly the best idea she had heard the entire time, and quickly moved to slip on her shoes and coat.]]

Do lock and block this behind me, you two. Watch the windows as well. Speaking of his brother has me wary. The last thing we need right now is him barging in while any of us are gone.

[[Serious stern look before she heads towards the door.]]

[Karkat executes a perfect FACEPALM x2 COMBO.]

God fucking damnit. I just saw Gamzee there the other day after he licked that fucking Grimer; why didn't I think of that?

[But as Rose gets ready to leave, he lowers his hands.]

Trust me, I will. I'm not fucking leaving if I don't have to, not while he's like this.

Wait, Rose. I'll go instead. If you're still sick you really don't need to be running around like this.

[He crosses the room as quickly as he can, reaching the door before her and slipping out of it before she has a chance to.]

I'll be right back.

[He disappears into the hallway, closing the door after him with a small snap. He takes a few steps down the hallway before a thought hits him and he doubles back, calling through the door:]

...and move the bed in front of the door if you have to! Seriously, don't just use a chair.

[[Surprised is certainly an understatement, and she watches him leave without a word to stop him.

After a moment, she regains herself and locks the door, the windows following.]]

Karkat, I believe the armchair would suffice. Will you please help me move it?

[John going instead of Rose is actually a pretty good idea, and yet another he wish he'd thought of. Surprising himself, he finds himself calling as he leaves-]

Thanks, John.

[He looks at Rose next, frowning some.]

You sure the armchair will be enough? He said to not just use one of those.

The chair is a good start. Unfortunately, I am unsure we would be able to retrieve the bed, though if you would like to try that instead we may.

[[Glancing around the room, she frowns.]]

There really isn't much else to use however, is there?

[Karkat hmms, but nonetheless goes over to the armchair.]

At least it's something, I guess. Help me with this.

[And with her aid, he'd help push it on over right against the door.]

[[Once the door is blocked off, she stands back and glances around once more.]]

I think, for the time being, this is all we have at our disposal, and therefor all that is really available.

[[With a sigh, she leans against a nearby wall and slides down it to sit, rubbing at her neck.]]

This is truly awful. This entire situation.

[And Karkat? He goes over to sit on the floor by the couch, all the better to keep an eye on Dave.]

No shit it is. I...

[He tries to think what to say, but nothing comes to mind. He substitutes it with a sigh.]

[[That's pretty much her thing right there. Sighs.

There are about a million things on her mind, and that she wants to say. A lot of them being apologies, she's finding.]]

I'm tempted to request he bring a nurse with him, rather than simply ask what might be done, but... I don't know.

[[Really, she just doesn't want quiet. Quiet is weird when Dave is in the room, because he should be filling it with his nonsense. And he's not.]]

[A sideways glance.]

Do it. Call him up on the 'gear right now and tell him to drag one out here. They helped Gamzee; they've gotta be able to help Dave, or I will fucking tear this city apart until I find something.

[[And so she does, pulling her Pokegear out and giving John a simple voice call, pressing it up to her ear as she waits for him to pick up. And if he does, he'll be greeted by her.]]

John? Where are you?

[Oop! Phone call! Rose doesn't have to wait long for him to pick up, he is all over that call at the second ring.]

Hey Rose! I just got to the center...why did something happen? Please don't tell me something else bad happened.

[Karkat is soon ducking in over Rose's shoulder.]

Bring a nurse here. Nothing else happened, but it's better if we have one check him over.

[[She leans her head out of his way to allow him at the phone, replying after her moirail.]]

Yes, everything is as well as they were before. We are just requesting a nurse, rather than having you simply inquire about what to do.

Okay! I can do that! I'll be back in minute.

[Click!]

[It's more like 5 minutes, but true to his word, John does eventually make it back to the room bringing a nurse with him. Knowing the door will be locked and hopefully barricaded, he knocks and lets them know that he is, in fact NOT BRO.]

Hey guys, it's me!

[No such luck as just being let in, John. Karkat calls back through the door-]

Dave used voice clips to mimic Terezi once; you could be doing the same for John. Tell me something only John and I would know and I'll let you in.

[This said as he goes to push on the arm chair, trying to hold it firm against the door. He really is serious here.]

[[Rose makes no such call for confirmation, figuring whatever he gives Karkat will be enough, but does raise to her feet and join with pushing against the chair, hoping the two of them would be able to hold off Bro if this was indeed him.]]

Are you serious?! Ugghhh!

[He is in no mood for this. He understands being wary, but really this is a little ridiculous. Though it doesn't look like he has much of a choice.]

Fine!

Karkat: last week we watched romcoms which led to you listing off all the reason you hated me. If I remember correctly, you told me that I look stupid, talk stupid, have shitty taste in movies, and I'm too cheery. You also said I was a shitty leader and didn't deserve the role.

Do I need to repeat the rest of that conversation or is that enough for you?

[Because he will Karkat, he will. Do you want Rose to hear everything else you said? Will you be able to cope with the resulting psychoanalysis?]

Okay, okay, shut up, John!

[With that, Karkat casts a sharp glare at Rose - one word, just one, I dare you - then goes to push the armchair out of the way so he and the nurse can come in.]

[[Rose offers him a questioning look in return, but says nothing, helping him move the chair and moving out of the way afterward so the nurse has room to enter and work.]]

[The nurse enters the room before John, who points her in the direction of the unconscious Dave on the couch. John himself still looks slightly annoyed as he enters, arms crossed and an uncharacteristically upset look on his face. He closes the door behind him and locks it immediately.]

[And Karkat immediately goes to nudge the chair back in front of the door once John has it locked. No Bro allowed, man, under any circumstances.]

[But if the nurse is weirded out by this, she sets it aside if only to go check on Dave... But it doesn't take her too terribly long to deliver her verdict to the group:] Aside from a hard bump on the head, you do realize he's just sleeping, right?

[And Karkat, for his part, gapes.]

[[Rose is also going to stare, quite blankly, at her.]]

...sleeping. He's just sleeping.

[[Okay, short fuse is totally go now. If Dave cannot feel her burning scowl in his dreams, the nurse is wrong and he's dead.]]

Of course Dave is sleeping. That is the most logical answer in all of this! Why would receive injury that would actually constitute for the level of worry and stress I am feeling right now? That is simply preposterous! Even in his sleep he is an insufferable prick!
