Chapter 33; Accidental Video

[[Today, when the gear turns on, you get a lovely view of the sky and the calming sounds of water nearby. It's a beautiful day, for those of you not outside.

This serene setting is broken by a squeal from a Pokemon and a splash, then all falls quiet and calm again.

It's a few minutes before you hear something again. This something being another splash. And then on screen appears a Dratini with a quite pathetically wiggling Magikarp in it's mouth.

With a happy chirp it disappears off camera again, only to return a few moments later to rub all over the 'gear. And then off it goes. There's a squeal, a splash, and a few minutes later the familiar sight of this Dratini with another Magikarp, struggling in it's grasp. It disappears, it reappears to smother the Pokegear, rinse, wash, repeat.

This show goes on for some time, until finally - during one of its rubbing sessions - it stops and looks up. And then it simply begins to trill in excitement. Almost like if it doesn't make noise, it'll explode. It's also wiggling.

There is so much wiggling from this Dratini.]]

...V-vodka...what are you doing?

[[It seems this Dratini is none other than Vodka Derptini - also lovingly known as John - belonging to resident Rose Lalonde. And said trainer has found the little dragon Pokemon.

She appears momentarily on screen, picking up the 'gear, before turning to look at...oh.

It seems all those Magikarp the little wiggling dragon type had been collecting are in quite the pile of flopping. Meanwhile, the aforementioned culprit of this karp congregation is sitting next to said heap, wiggling as if waiting for praise.

Apparently those fish are a gift for his trainer.]]

...That's...very nice of you, John. Thank you very much. How sweet.

[[A few pats to the Dratini's head, followed by a multitude of elated chirps, lilts, warbles and purls, and the 'gear is shut off.]]

[And why wouldn't John appear behind Rose a few moments later? Gotta stick to your travel buddy, you know! Stopping next to Rose, he boggles at the pile of flopping Magikarp.]

Um...

[Casey, meanwhile, is clapping and bouncing up and down a little. That's so sweet Derptini!]

[[First Derptini will look up at John expectantly. Aren't you proud of him? And then he will wiggle his way over to Casey!]]

That is about how I feel right now.

[John's not sure what to think, Derptini. On the one hand, it's a very nice gesture. On the other, those poor Magikarp. Casey is very proud of you though, Derptini. So proud because you are so sweet and you are getting a hug now for it.]

Yeah that's...that's a lot of Magikarp.

[Boggling forever. FOR. EVER.]

[[HUGS! He wishes he could hug you back. 8C He will just...wrap around you kind of.]]

Yes. Yes it is. I am trying to figure out the most effective way of returning them to the lake.

[That is good enough for Casey! A hug is a hug even if you don't have arms!]

Is there anything I can do to help with that?

I'm..not quite sure just yet.

[[Yay! Wiggling so happily.]]

Okay. Well...we should probably do something about it soon, don't you think? They look kinda... [Sad? Pathetic? Magikarp can breathe outside of the water, right?]

[Wiggle huuuugggsss!]

[[Well they can be used in battle...]]

Perhaps...we...should toss them in one by one I suppose.

Might be the easiest way. Though we might not want to do that while he's...you know. Right there. [A slight jerk of the head in the Dratini's direction.]

Of course. Perhaps we can talk Casey into taking him back to the camp?

Pfft, that won't take an convincing. Watch. Hey, Casey?

[The bunny pokémon perks up, looking eagerly over at John but keeping a firm grip on the Dratini.]

You know, before we left camp, I noticed that uncle Dave really looked like he could use some hugs. I'm willing to bet that a certain bunny and a certain dragon would be perfect for such a task. There might even be treats involved...

[And with that, Casey jumps to her feet, holding the snake-like dragon as best she can and half dragging him away towards camp, chittering happily. Hugs and treats? Oh happy day!]

[[And the Dratini has no objections happy for the exact same reasons. Plus? Uncle Dave. This is going to be so great.]]

Very nicely done, John.

[[Moving to the pile now. Let's start putting these Magikarp back...]]

[A little bow before moving over to give Rose a hand with the fish.]

[[With a chuckle, in the first Magikarp is tossed.]]

[And there goes the second one!]

Well I would hope I would be after all this time!

[Does he feel bad about what may have just unleashed on Dave? Nope. Not at all.]

[[Oh John. You're terrible.]]

I believe you were from day one, from how Casey acted fresh out of her egg.

Mmm...well that's probably because...I talked to her while she was still in the egg. So...

[Be free Magikarp, be free!]

[[Rose smiles at that, but says nothing, continuing her work with the Magikarp.]]

Do you speak with all of your eggs?

Mmhmm. [A nod as a third Magikarp is pulled from the pile.] Every single one. Though I'm wondering if maybe I should have talked to Lestat more.

You're very sweet, John, and...speaking of Lestat. [[And another.]]

From what I've heard, he's likely picked up the attitude of his mother. I doubt it really has anything to do with how you've treated and raised him.

Really? Well that's...sort of a reassurance, I guess. But I still feel as though I should try harder. Maybe I can break him of that, inherited or not.

I bid you good luck. And Merlin sends his sympathies.

Merlin? Wait you mean like...the wizard? Sword in the Stone Merlin? [Like hell he's read The Once and Future King but who DOESN'T know the story of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table? And yeah, he's totally thinking of the Disney movie now.]

[[Okay. Do you see this John? This blank look of sudden realization? She even dropped the Magikarp she was holding.]]

...oh my god.

[[THERE ARE SO MANY WIZARDS IN JOHTO AND NOW IT'S MERLIN AND THIS COULD VERY WELL BE THAT MERLIN BECAUSE AURTHUR WAS HERE...]]

What do you mean 'oh my god'? Wait...are you telling me that you seriously had a conversation with a guy named Merlin and didn't think of that?
